Ethics & Environment Statement
Redgum Soaps aim to produce a high quality product while reducing the environmental impact of manufacture, and market with honesty and integrity.
To further our commitment our workshop and office are solar powered, rain water is collected on site for use in the manufacture and clean up, and all waste is minimised. All packaging is biodegradable or reusable.
Implementation of Ethics
In practice the above statement translates to an aim that our daily activities become 'sustainable', i.e. we do not adversely affect the environment nor the lives of others.
In reality, it is extremely difficult not to have an adverse affect on some part of the environment. Almost everything we consume has some level of energy input that contributes to global warming, everything has a certain amount of packaging that is used in the manufacture, transport and sale of the goods that make our lives what they are.
Much of our daily consumables have been manufactured or sold in a way that contributes to social injustice somewhere in the world. However at Redgum we believe it is possible to not only minimise these impacts, but to reverse them!
We are achieving this by firstly operating in within the guidelines of our own ethic statement, and secondly by freely making available all of our knowledge. We encourage others to make their own soap to use and trade.
By behaving this way we are part of a revival of community skills and community trading which is an essential for independence, sustainability and to ensure that the goods you consume have not caused social injustice somewhere else in the world.
